"Our Responsibilities"
is a 2026 ia video installation based on the Under Surfaces (ImPop) series "Diamonds," which has been permanently installed since 2023 with two physical works at the former International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague.
The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), headquartered in The Hague (Netherlands) for the former Yugoslavia branch and in Arusha (Tanzania) for the Rwanda branch, is the United Nations body established to assume the residual functions of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR).
"Blood diamonds" (or war diamonds) are gems extracted in conflict zones and sold illegally to finance rebels, warlords, or armies, often using forced or child labor. Primarily originating from African regions, they fuel civil wars, atrocities, and illicit trafficking, costing human lives.
The title contains the full explanation of the video work.
It is a question about our responsibility in purchases and desires that often arise from the suffering of others and from the suppression of the most basic rights and tenets of humanity.
